About Salt Springs, Florida

Located in the Ocala National Forest

   Salt Springs is a quaint small town nestled in the heart of the Ocala National Forest, one of the most heavily travelled National Forests in the United States. 

There are about 2,000 full time residents and many thousands of tourists who visit the area each year to enjoy the springs, lush forestry, wildlife, and Lake Kerr which spans 2,830 acres. Area activities include: Birding, Fishing, Camping, Hunting, Hiking, Boating, and Canoeing.

Within Salt Springs there are two fifty-five and over communities, many individual residences, a traveler’s resort, and two campgrounds. It is approximately 20 miles from the city of Palatka, 30 miles from the city of Ocala, FL and less than fifty miles from Gainesville, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine, FL.

Salt Springs is the gem of the forest with a spectacular natural mineral spring that gives the area its name with clear water that is 72 °F year round. The springs are full of bassturtles, and blue crabs. Although alligators inhabit the area, you'll have no worries the swimming hole is safe and free from these predators during the day. The springs boast 4 boils which you can swim into, the deepest being 6 fathoms (36 ft deep).

​​​​​​​The springs feed into Lake George by way of a most beautiful and picturesque eight mile Salt Springs Run which is perfect for those who love to put the boat in the water and see the local birds and beauty of old Florida. 

Salt Springs is an unincorporated community in Marion CountyFlorida, United States. It is located near Lake George. The community is part of the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area. Salt Springs is seated among the Ocala National Forest. The main attraction is the Salt Springs Recreation and Camping areas. The recreation area is home to the Salt Springs,

SUBWAY -- Casual counter serve chain for build-your-own sandwiches and salads with healthy, fresh ingredients and options. Open Sunday 7 - 7, and Monday thru Saturday 6:30 - 8.

SALT SPRINGS PIZZA -- Pizzaria serving Pies plus Italian Dishes in a casual setting. Pizza, Calzones, Stromboli, Pastas, Soups, Sandwiches, Salads, and More. Open Sunday thru Thursday 11 - 8, Friday and Saturday 11 - 8:30.
